Do Butterflies Make Butter?

Haven found Pete's old science book.

It has inspired a lot of questions.*

A lot.

Pufferfish, eels, sharks, spiders, chipmunks and armadillos (who woulda' known they breed 4 to a same gender litter every time -- fascinating!).

And with that, we're well on our way to being that weird homeschooling family with kids who just can't act right! Hooray, socially maladjusted land, here we come!! I'll be the one with the outdated glasses and fanny pack full of really lame snacks -- organic granola anyone?

* oh, the shirt around Haven's waist is actually a set of terrifying bat wings ... of course!

My word. I love your family. Each and every socially maladjusted one of you.

And tell Haven those are some seriously terrifying bat wings. I was appropriately afraid...

Hi my former band geek friend,

You love this socially maladjusted family because you fit in so well with us!

Fret not, we love you too!

I pray that your homeschooling life makes you, at least, as maladjusted as we are - but not as much as some. Never forget that excessively long homemade skirts do not look good in baseball games.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. And I hope you'll forgive me for the homeschooling jabs as after spending a childhood chewing up and spitting out nerdy home schooled kids I find myself falling in love with homeschooling; I dread the karma ...

Yup. You're definitely going to win the family prize for smartest homeschooled kids. Here's hopin' you also have the most endearingly dorky ones, too. I can't wait to see you in jean skirts!

(Haven is pretty much brilliant. You know that, right?)

p.s.

If that's the Reader's Digest book I gave Pete for his birthday, it's not the actual one he flipped through when he was little. I got it at a book sale in Buffalo, but it's the same edition. (I've since picked up another for us at an Ithaca sale!)

I told Mom to keep her eye out for the other one. It looks like Haven might wear this one out and need a fresh one before he's through. Although he may just memorize the thing to bypass the need for an actual book. (She was very impressed after their visit with all the facts that Haven was telling them about birds and such. See...Brilliant!))
